ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Pace University Women's Soccer continued its strong opening weekend Sunday, using a relentless attack to race past Dominican University of New York, 5-1, at O'Brien Field. The Setters improved to 2-0 while outshooting the Chargers 40-6.
The Blue and Gold wasted little time finding the scoreboard. Bailey Olson opened the scoring in the 10th minute off a feed from Alyssa Blanchette before Blanchette doubled the advantage at 19:55, finishing a setup from Kaelyn Reinhard to send the Setters into halftime ahead 2-0.
Pace kept its foot on the gas after the break, firing 23 second-half shots. Meredith Klosek stretched the lead to 3-0 in the 56th minute off an Olson assist before Dominican converted a penalty kick five minutes later.
The Setters quickly put the contest away with two goals just 46 seconds apart. Sophia Roman scored at 75:05 off Blanchette's second assist of the afternoon, and Blanchette struck again at 75:51 following a feed from Klosek to complete the 5-1 victory.
Blanchette was at the center of the offensive surge, producing two goals and two assists for six points while placing five of her game-high 10 shots on target. Olson finished with a goal and an assist, while Klosek also contributed a goal and an assist.
Through two games, the Setters have outscored their opponents 7-1 and are 2-0 for the second consecutive season. Pace also defeated Dominican 5-0 last October, giving the Blue and Gold 10 goals across the last two meetings.
The Setters remain on the road Thursday, Sept. 3, traveling to Caldwell, NJ, for a 4:00 p.m. matchup with Caldwell University.
