PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Tuesday, Pace University Softball swept a non-conference doubleheader against Molloy University, earning a 5-4 victory in game one before rallying for a 10-9 walk-off win in game two.
Ashley Field delivered the game-winning hit in the opener and later capped the second game with another walk-off single, marking her second walk-off hit of the season as the Setters improved to 19-23 overall.
Game One
Pace broke through in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Ava Edmond opened the scoring with a solo home run to right field before
Faith Scally and
Kara King reached base ahead of a two-run single from
Willa Poplawski.
Molloy answered with a run in the fifth inning and then rallied for three runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
The Setters responded immediately in the bottom of the fifth. King singled and later scored on a double from Poplawski before
Katerina Luna followed with an RBI single to center, giving Pace a 5-4 advantage.
Priscilla Del Toro earned the win after allowing three runs across 5.2 innings, while
Alyssa Smart recorded the final four outs for her third save of the season. Poplawski finished with two hits and three RBIs, while King added two hits and Edmond homered and scored twice.
Game Two
Molloy took a 3-0 lead in the second inning before the Setters answered right away. Luna reached after being hit by a pitch before
Nikki Chong and Edmond delivered back-to-back singles. After
Lauren D'Orazio advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, Scally tied the game with a two-run single up the middle.
Molloy pulled away again in the fourth inning with five runs to build an 8-3 advantage, but Pace slowly chipped away. Luna delivered an RBI single in the fifth to cut the deficit to 8-4 before the Setters exploded in the seventh.
King opened the inning with a walk before Field doubled down the left field line.
Madison Picerno followed with a two-run double, and Poplawski added another RBI double to trim the deficit to 9-7. Luna later walked to load the bases before Scally and King each drew RBI walks to tie the game. Field then lined a walk-off single through the left side to bring home
Addison Martinez and complete the comeback.
Field finished with two hits and two RBIs in game two, while Picerno drove in two runs and Scally added three RBIs. King scored twice and reached base three times, while Smart earned the win in relief after allowing one run over the final 3.1 innings.
The Setters return to NE10 play tomorrow when they visit American International College for a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
