Softball Bounces Back in Game Two to Split with Chowan

MURFEESBORO, N.C. – Pace University Softball split a road doubleheader with Chowan University on Friday afternoon in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. The Hawks claimed the opener 5–4 in eight innings, before the Setters responded with a 1–0 victory in the second game behind a dominant pitching performance. With the split, the Blue and Gold move to 3–3 overall.

Game One (8 innings)
Chowan opened the scoring in the third inning before Pace answered in the fourth. With the bases loaded, Kara King drew a walk to bring home Willa Poplawski, tying the game at 1–1. The Hawks regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to move ahead 3–1.

The Blue and Gold responded in the fifth inning behind Poplawski. After Riley Jenkins reached base, Poplawski launched a two-run home run to center field to even the score at 3–3.

After both teams remained scoreless through the seventh, the game moved to extra innings. Pace took the lead in the eighth when Ava Edmond scored on an RBI single from Poplawski to give the Setters a 4–3 advantage. Chowan answered in the bottom half with two runs to secure the 5–4 walk-off win.

Poplawski led the Pace offense with a 4-for-4 performance, three RBIs, and a home run, while Jenkins added a hit and scored a run.

Game Two
Pace responded in the second game behind a dominant effort from Priscilla Del Toro in the circle. The right-hander tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout, striking out four and allowing just three walks across seven innings.

The Setters broke through in the fifth inning. Madison Picerno led off the frame with a single before Mikayla Hughes moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Ashley Field then lined an RBI single up the middle to bring Picerno home for the game's only run.

Del Toro and the Pace defense closed the door from there, retiring the final six batters to secure the shutout victory and the doubleheader split.

Pace continues its road trip on Saturday, returning to face Shawe University for another doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
