PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – No. 7 Pace University Women's Lacrosse erased a four-goal second-half deficit and completed a dramatic comeback in overtime to defeat No. 16 Dominican University of New York, 10–9, Saturday afternoon at Northwell Stadium. The Setters trailed by four late in the third quarter before delivering a sustained run across the fourth and overtime to secure the season-opening victory. The win moves Pace to 1–0 overall on the year.
Pace tallied its first goal of 2026 when
Maddie Schubert converted off an
Annie Sheehan assist to give the Setters a 1–0 lead. Dominican answered with a 4–1 run over the final nine minutes of the first quarter to take a 4–2 advantage, forcing Pace to regroup early.
The Setters steadied themselves in the second.
Mackenzie Carita scored off a Sheehan feed to spark a push, and after Dominican stretched its lead to 6–3, Pace responded with consecutive free-position goals from Carita and Sheehan in the final 70 seconds of the half. That late 2–0 burst cut the deficit to 6–5 heading into the break and shifted momentum back toward the Blue and Gold.
The Chargers extended their run early in the third, scoring three of the first four goals to build a 9–5 lead with just over seven minutes remaining in the period. Facing their largest deficit of the afternoon, Pace answered.
Lisa Heffernan converted a man-up free-position opportunity to make it 9–6, closing the quarter within three.
The fourth belonged to the Setters as Schubert ignited the rally with a free-position goal at 11:57 to cut the deficit to 9–7.
Katie Long followed with a finish off a Schubert assist to make it 9–8, and Heffernan delivered again on a man-up free-position chance with 2:19 remaining to tie the game at 9–9. Pace's defense tightened over the final two minutes, and goalkeeper

In the extra session, Pace controlled possession off the draw, and Schubert capped the comeback with her third goal of the afternoon off another Sheehan assist, sealing the 10–9 victory.
Schubert and Carita each scored three goals, while Heffernan added two man-up finishes. Sheehan totaled four points with one goal and three assists and contributed three draw controls as Pace dominated the circle with a 20–2 draw control advantage. Branco finished with seven saves to anchor the defense.
The Setters return to the field on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. for a road meeting against Molloy University.
