GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Despite controlling much of the action offensively, Pace University Field Hockey suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to Adelphi University on Wednesday afternoon at Motamed Field. The Setters moved to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in Northeast 10 Conference play.
Pace struck first late in the opening quarter when Grace Francis found the back of the cage with 50 seconds remaining. Feline Rook and Josefina Villa Alonso assisted on the goal, Francis' team-leading 12th of the season.
The Blue and Gold maintained their advantage through halftime, holding Adelphi without a shot in the second quarter while generating five attempts of their own.
Adelphi evened the score in the 38th minute, but Pace continued to apply pressure throughout the second half. The Setters recorded seven shots and seven penalty corners in the third quarter alone, including a late flurry that saw Francis strike the post.
Neither side broke through in the fourth quarter, sending the contest into overtime. Adelphi ultimately secured the victory with a goal just 1:33 into the extra period.
Francis and Rook led the Setters with four shots apiece, while Carlotta Oschmann and Anne Kopec each added three. Tara Dusée recorded two saves in goal.
Pace finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots and a commanding 22-5 edge in penalty corners, but was unable to convert its opportunities into a second goal.
The Setters head back home on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they host Bentley University at 4:30 p.m. at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
