Women's Soccer Falls to Saint Anselm Following Second-Half Stumble

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Three goals in the opening 14 minutes gave Pace University Women's Soccer an early advantage Saturday afternoon, but Saint Anselm College rallied for a 5-3 Northeast 10 Conference victory at Northwell Stadium. The loss moved the Setters to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Alyssa Blanchette opened the scoring just 7:24 into the contest, finishing a pass from Bindiya Wadhwani to put Pace ahead 1-0. Only 23 seconds later, the Setters doubled their lead on a team goal before Meredith Klosek connected in the 14th minute off an assist from Madison Pieloch to make it 3-0.

Saint Anselm answered with a penalty kick in the 18th minute, cutting Pace's advantage to 3-1 heading into halftime.

The visitors carried their momentum into the second half, scoring three times in the opening six minutes to take a 4-3 lead. Saint Anselm added another goal in the 67th minute to complete the comeback.

Pace continued searching for opportunities late, with Bailey Olson and Blanchette each putting shots on goal in the final five minutes, but the Setters were unable to close the deficit.

Siena McCree finished with nine saves in goal, while Blanchette and Klosek each recorded a goal on three shots. Pace totaled 13 shots, including nine on goal, with Olson adding two shots on target.

The Setters return to Northwell Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17, when they host Assumption University at 7:00 p.m. for their Homecoming and Alumni Day matchup in Northeast 10 Conference play.
