GARDEN CITY, NY - #2 in the East Region, Pace Women's Lacrosse, headed into their third match up of the season for the NCAA Quarterfinal round with the #1 seed and 2025 Northeast-10 (NE10) Champions, Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. on Saturday afternoon.

The Setters battled throughout the entire contest after trailing in one full half of play. By the second, the squad equalized the score and forced a double overtime where Adelphi caged the golden goal for the 13-12 Pace defeat.

Here's What Happened:
  • In a slow start to the day for the Blue and Gold, the Panthers, who have not lost at home all year, got out to a 3-0 lead before Mary Kate Nawrocki tallied the Setters' first of the day, 3-1.
  • By the second quarter, Pace trailed by three, 4-1, and played on an even playing ground with the hosts when each side recorded four goals throughout. Mackenzie Carita featured two of her five goals in the frame and Gigi Genovese and Nikki Mottes assisted in the neutral quarter. At the half, Adelphi still held the upper hand with a 8-5 advantage over the Setters.
  • Carita ignited the second half with a goal to kick the Setters momentum into gear and the Blue and Gold went on to post four goals in the third with the help of Laura Luikart, Annie Sheehan and another Carita goal.
  • By the final stanza, Pace made it a two-point game and eventually clawed their way back to neutralize the score at 11 before the Panthers jumped back out in front with a low inside goal, 12-11. For the second tie of the frame, 12-12, Gigi Genovese drilled a free position goal and forced the extra minutes.
  • One overtime was not enough for both sides rather the game made it into a second extra frame and Adelphi found the back of the net first to halt the Setters NCAA run, 13-12.
