RV Softball Sweeps Mercy on the Road to Increase Win Streak to Twelve

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – During a Wednesday doubleheader against Mercy University, RV Pace softball earned two wins, taking game one, 2-0, and game two, 4-0. Back-to-back shutouts increase Pace's win streak to 12 games as they now sit at 18-8 overall and 4-0 within the Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference.

Game One
  • A pitcher's duel ensued at Smith Field as Giselle Garcia put together another remarkable outing in the circle. Neither side managed to string together success at the dish, leading to a 0-0 tie through six innings.
  • In the seventh inning, the Setters threatened to strike with two runners on and no outs. On a ground-out to the pitcher, Brianna Shea capitalized on the throw over to first base by racing home before the Mavericks could tag her out. After an errant throw from Mercy, Raelle Gorman also snuck home to give the Setters a slight 2-0 edge on the road.
  • Following the two-run inning, Garcia returned to the circle and wrapped up her sixth shutout performance of the year, posting 13 strikeouts in the 2-0 victory.
Game Two
  • The Setters wasted no time in game two, leaping out to a 1-0 lead in the first behind an RBI single from Riley Jenkins. With a one-run advantage, Pricilla Del Toro cruised in the circle in the early innings, retiring nine of the first 12 batters.
  • Pace went ahead by two runs in the third inning off a Shea single to right center field to make it 2-0 with the Setters up. Before the games end, two more runs were scored for the Blue and Gold, with Gorman earning an RBI. Moving into the bottom of the seventh, the Setters held a 4-0 lead as Del Toro walked back in the circle looking for her first career shutout.
  • The junior delivered in the final inning, tossing seven scoreless with five hits allowed and no walks surrendered. Del Toro secured her first career shutout alongside her second complete game in the 4-0 win for Pace.
Box Score Insights
  • Garcia and Del Toro split pitching duties in the twin-bill as both went the distance in their outings, combining for 14.0 IP, 13 strikeouts, and only six hits as the Mavericks failed to bring a run across.
  • Alexa Borino notched four hits and three runs scored, while Shea registered two hits, two runs, and one RBI.
  • Overall, the Blue and Gold racked up 15 hits compared to Mercy's six.
