No. 22 Softball Records Shut Out Sweep of New Haven

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Gisselle Garcia continued her remarkable 2025 campaign on Friday afternoon, recording her fourth no-hit performance of the season against the University of New Haven. The senior pitcher helped the Setters secure back-to-back wins on the diamond, increasing their win streak to 24 consecutive games.

With a 5-0 win in game one and a 7-0 victory in game two, the Blue and Gold remain perfect at home, boasting a 16-0 record at the Pace Softball Field. On the year, Pace now holds a 30-8 overall record, and an undefeated 14-0 record inside the Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference.

Game One
  • Game one was highlighted by the exceptional performance of Garcia as she went the distance to post a ten-strikeout no-hitter. Beginning her outing with a 1-2-3 inning, the Setters stepped up to bat in the first, looking to secure the early advantage over the Chargers.
  • A two-out rally led by a two-RBI single from Raelle Gorman put the Setters on top of New Haven 3-0 after the opening inning. Leading by three runs, Garcia walked back into the circle and cruised through the visitors' lineup through the remainder of the contest, allowing only one runner to reach base on a walk.
  • Zeros stayed on the board for both teams until the Blue and Gold struck again in the bottom of the sixth. Two straight doubles off the bat of Madison Picerno and Katerina Luna pushed Pace's lead up to five runs, 5-0, as New Haven had no answer on either side of the field.
  • In the final inning of game one, Garcia retired the last two batters on strikes to put the finishing touches on the 5-0 win and her fourth no-hitter of the regular season. Her magnificent outing in the circle led to the 23rd win in a row for the Blue and Gold.
Game Two
  • In the second game of the twin-bill, it was a slower start for the Setters as no runs managed to cross home plate until an error for the Chargers pushed home a run, making it 1-0. Moving into the fifth, Pace had a one-run advantage, 1-0.
  • The Setters escaped the top of the fifth after New Haven had two runners in scoring position with one out, keeping the game at 1-0. Answering back after the close call defensively, the Setters took control in the bottom of the fifth.
  • An eventful inning for Pace led to six runs scored, five hits, and one error as the home squad's lead stretched to 7-0 before the start of the seventh inning. RBIs from Gorman, Riley Jenkins, and Alexa Borino made the difference in the game-changing inning.
  • In the top of the seventh, Alyssa Smart faced three batters and retired three as the Blue and Gold earned a 7-0 win for their 24th straight victory this season.
Box Score Insights

  • Priscilla Del Toro (4.0 IP, 0 ER, 1 W) and Smart (3.0 IP, 3 Ks, 1 SV) split work in the circle as the pair guided the Setters to the sweep in game two.
  • In the batter's box, Gorman had a massive day with four RBIs and two hits while Picerno knocked two doubles and one RBI. Also providing a productive day at the plate, Luna posted one RBI off two hits in game one.
