PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In the final game of 2025, Pace University Women's Basketball made a strong fourth-quarter push but could not overcome an early deficit, dropping a 72-65 decision to the College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center. Pace moved to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in Northeast 10 Conference play with the setback.
Pace opened the game with energy, as
Ciara Collins scored the first basket and
Anisa Akinola knocked down an early three to help the Setters take a 12–10 lead after one quarter. Staten Island responded in the second period, using a 22-point frame to swing momentum and carry a 32–25 advantage into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Pace stayed within reach behind steady offense from
Grace Ziogas and Collins, trimming the margin to seven entering the fourth quarter. The Setters continued to apply pressure late, cutting the deficit to five on a Ziogas three in the final minutes, but Staten Island closed the game at the free-throw line to seal the win.
Ziogas and Collins led Pace with 18 points apiece, while Akinola added 16 points and provided a spark throughout the second half. Pace outscored Staten Island 22–18 in the fourth quarter, showing resilience down the stretch despite coming up short.
Heading into 2026, Pace returns to action when the Setters hit the road to face St. Thomas Aquinas College on Friday, January 2 at 3:00 p.m., before resuming Northeast 10 Conference play the following week at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
