Poehlmann and Squillacioti Strike as Setters Blank Molloy on the Road

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Behind an early strike from Theo Poehlmann and a first-half finish from Alex Squillacioti, Pace University Men's Soccer secured a 2-0 road victory over Molloy University on Tuesday night. The result continues a promising stretch for the Blue and Gold, who improve to 6-8-2 overall.

The Setters wasted little time making their mark, striking just 78 seconds into play. Poehlmann buried his second goal of the year to give Pace an immediate 1-0 advantage, capping off an energetic opening push from the visitors.

The Blue and Gold kept up the pressure throughout the first half, recording 10 shots and earning six corner kicks to control possession against the Lions.

Pace doubled its lead shortly before halftime when Squillacioti finished off a pinpoint assist from Daniel Santos in the 43rd minute. The goal was Squillacioti's second of the season, while Santos' helper marked his third of the year as the Setters entered the break firmly in command.

The second half belonged to the defense, with sophomore goalkeeper Joe Zweben turning aside all eight shots he faced to preserve the clean sheet. Led by Edward Vargas, Pietro Carvalho, and Peter Magnuson III, Pace's back line frustrated Molloy's attack throughout the night.

Thomas Lyden led the offensive charge with four shots, while Derrick Henry and Santos each added efforts on goal to keep up the pressure.

The Setters return to Northeast 10 play on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., traveling to Saint Michael's College for an in-conference kickoff in Colchester, VT.
