MANCHESTER, N.H. – In a Sunday afternoon match-up against Southern New Hampshire University, Pace women's basketball fell just shy of victory 55-54 on the road. During the close in-conference match-up,
Tower Lorde netted a career-high 27 points as the Setters move to 6-8 overall, and 2-4 in the Northeast-10.
Here's What Happened
The home squad made the most of their first-half opportunities taking a 31-20 advantage into the locker room over the Setters. In a one-sided affair, Pace continued to trail by double-digits before finding success towards the end of the third quarter.
Midway through the third, SNHU captured their largest lead of the game jumping ahead by 16 points, 40-24. However, the Setters did not go down without a fight slowly crawling back each possession.
After closing the third with a 17-8 run, the Setters opened up the final quarter with back-to-back makes to inch within four points of the Penmen, 44-48. Down the final stretch, the Setters kept stride with SNHU as Lorde continued to make the defense pay down low.
Following a defensive stop with under a minute remaining, the Blue and Gold had an opportunity to swipe the lead from the Penmen in the contest's final seconds. After an inbounds at the top of the key, the Setters managed to get an excellent look at the rim but ultimately fell short in the final seconds dropping the in-conference match-up, 55-54.
Box Score Insights
Lorde dominated in the paint making 11-of-13 field goals to reach a career-high 27 points. The graduate student knocked down five free throws and grabbed eight rebounds in an impressive effort on the offensive end.
Shanice Sinclair led in the assists department dishing out six helpers to go along with a season-best eight rebounds.
The Setters racked up 32 of their 54 points in the paint posting a 40% field goal percentage.
Women's basketball returns to their home court Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. for an in-conference meeting with Franklin Pierce University.
