Setters Split with Adelphi in Tuesday Doubleheader

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Tuesday afternoon, the Pace University Softball team split with Adelphi University, taking game one, 5-1, and dropping game two, 4-7. The Setters move to 18-8 overall, and 6-3 within the Northeast-10.

Game One

In a pitcher's duel between Pace's Gisselle Garcia and Adelphi's Lindsey Hibbs, runs were hard to come by in the first few innings. Pace struck first in the third, off a Kaylee Matsuda single to right field giving the home squad a 1-0 lead.

Garcia cruised through the Adelphi lineup in game one, surrendering one run in the fifth off a single up the middle. After five innings of play, the Setters and Panthers found themselves tied, 1-1.

The 1-1 tie held until the bottom of the sixth when Pace brought home four runs. Kickstarted by a Riley Jenkins single to center field the Setters snagged the lead 3-1 and continued to add more. A Jade Alvarado single to right field put two more on the board for the Blue and Gold leading to a 5-1 advantage.

In the top of the final inning, Garcia closed out the game making the final out herself on a putout to first base to secure the victory in game one. On the day, she pitched a complete game, recording six strikeouts while giving up one run off four hits.

Jenkins (1-for-3, 2 RBIs), and Alvarado (1-for-3, 2 RBIs) had the most productive days in the batter's box for Pace. Sohpia Valle added two hits and a run scored in the contest.

Game Two

A six-run inning from Adelphi in the fifth inning was enough to fend off Pace in game two. The Setters held a 2-1 advantage after the fourth before the Panthers took control of the contest.

A three-run homer from Adelphi's Kendal Winn put the visitors ahead 7-2 and they never looked back. Lily Kenney helped propel the Panthers to the win behind her complete game in the circle.

At the plate for the Setters, Jenkins launched her second home run of the season while Raelle Gorman went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Up Next

Next in store for the Blue and Gold is a road doubleheader against Saint Thomas Aquinas tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
