PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University baseball alumni Dan Wirchansky, continues to rise through the minor leagues after joining the Seattle Mariners organization in February. The left-handed pitcher will join the double-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners to begin the 2024 season. After numerous setbacks in his career, Wirchansky has found his new home with the Arkansas Travelers.
Wirchansky was one of the finest pitchers in Pace's history, as he produced a 6-2 record and a 1.38 earned run average in his senior season which included a 16-strikeout perfect game. The 2019 graduate still holds the all-time Pace record for earned run average (1.89), and career strikeouts (230).
Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft, Wirchansky was prepared for a life of professional baseball. However, various complications arose for the Valhalla, N.Y. native. The COVID-19 pandemic and mandatory Tommy John surgery hindered his journey to The Show, but he never gave up on his ambitions.
Two years after being released for a failed physical, Wirchansky set out to resurrect his career and made several appearances on various teams. For some, the abundance of setbacks may have marked the end of their career, but Wirchansky knew he had more left to prove on the mound. After playing for six different teams in a three-year span, Wirchansky has returned to an MLB organization signing a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners.
The Arkansas Travelers hope to take Wirchansky's game to new heights in the 2024 season as the southpaw will look to expand upon his success in hopes of one day being called up to the big leagues. Wirchansky is the perfect example of how a positive mindset and persistence can help an individual achieve their dreams even when they may seem out of reach.
