MANCHESTER, NH – In their final doubleheader of the 2024 regular season, the Pace University softball team managed to split with Southern New Hampshire University. The Setters secured a 4-1 victory in game one and fell in game two, 2-1. The Blue and Gold finish their 2024 regular season with a 32-13 overall record and a 15-7 Northeast-10 record.
Game One
Four runs from the Setters were enough to fend off Southern New Hampshire in game one. Raelle Gorman and Carolina Iturriaga brought home the first two runs early to give Pace a 2-0 lead.
The Penmen tallied a run in the fourth to trim into Pace's lead, but Brianna Shea answered the next inning driving in two runs off a single to center field. Moving into the sixth the Setters held a 4-1 advantage. In the final two innings, Pace neutralized the Penmen's offense and sealed the deal on their 32nd win of the season.
Gisselle Garcia wrapped up her regular season with another stellar performance in the circle. The junior tossed a complete game allowing one run while retiring nine batters on strikes.
Gorman (2-for-4, 1 RBI) Shea (1-for-2, 2 RBIs, 1 walk), and Sophie Valle (2-for-3) had efficient games at the plate.
Game Two
In game two, Pace's bats went quiet after posting a run in the first inning. In a pitcher's duel, neither side managed to find consistent success in the batter's box.
Southern New Hampshire jumped ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the third off an RBI double to left field. The rest of the way, both teams struggled to get the bats going as no runs were scored in the final four innings.
In a low-scoring contest, the Setters fell 1-2 as the pitching duo of Hannah DeRock and Julianna Colbert combined for five strikeouts and only five hits allowed in the seven-inning affair.
Willa Poplawski tallied two hits in the game while Riley Jenkins produced the lone RBI for Pace.
Up Next
Next in store for the Setters is the first round of the Northeast-10 Softball Championship as they finished with the third seed in the conference.
