PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Pace University baseball alumni Dan Wirchansky, became the newest member of the Seattle Mariners organization Saturday morning. A 2019 graduate, Wirchansky was a standout pitcher for the Setters posting a 6-2 record and a 1.38 earned run average in his senior season which included a historic 16-strikeout perfect game. The left hander still holds the all-time Pace record for total career strikeouts with 230.  

Drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2019 Major League Baseball (MLB) Amateur Draft, Wirchansky was destined for a professional career in baseball following his dominance in college. However, multiple setbacks would create obstacles for Wirchansky. Required Tommy John surgery and the COVID-19 pandemic complicated his path to MLB but the Valhalla, N.Y. native never gave up on his dreams.  

Nearly two years after being released for a failed physical, Wirchansky set out to revive his career and joined the New York Boulders of the Frontier League. A year later in 2022, Wirchansky was selected among the league's best joining the Eastern Division All-Star Team.  

His success garnered the attention of several MLB franchises as Wirchansky's reputation on the mound continued to rise to new heights. After making 21 appearances in the Puerto Rican Winter League (1.89 earned run average in 19 innings) Wirchansky returned to his previous status as an elite pitcher. Less than a month after his stint in the winter league, Wirchansky has returned to an MLB organization signing a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners.  

The southpaw will take the mound in the spring intent on making an impact for his new squad. Wirchansky has overcome numerous setbacks in his career to return to the baseball diamond, showcasing how great determination can help an individual achieve their goals.
