Setters Season Ends Against Saint Anselm in NE10 Quarterfinals

MANCHESTER, N.H. – In the quarterfinal round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, No. 6 seeded Pace field hockey fell on the road, 5-4, to No. 3 Saint Anselm College. In an offensive showcase from both sides, a three-goal deficit for the Setters was too significant to overcome as their season came to an end at the hands of the Hawks.

At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Pace finishes its campaign with a 12-7 overall record.

Here's What Happened
  • The Hawks came out of the gates strong finding the back of the twine just over a minute into the opening quarter. Finding themselves down by one goal early, the Setters countered back with an equalizer from Katelyn Fairhurst. Before the quarter's end, Saint Anselm fired in two more goals to extend their advantage to 3-1 heading into the second.
  • In a similar fashion to the first quarter, the Hawks tacked on a goal in the first minute to increase the lead to 4-1. Three minutes later, Fairhurst scored again to bring Pace back into the contest, 4-2. However, Saint Anselm kept up the offensive pressure and found the back of the net to put the Setters behind three goals, 5-2.
  • At the end of the eventful first half, the Blue and Gold trimmed the deficit to 5-3 after Ella Tamweber knocked in a shorthanded goal off a rebound. Eight goals between both sides in the half marked a season-high for the entire Northeast-10.
  • Following the back-and-forth first half, both defenses found momentum in the second portion of the game. Neither side changed the scoreboard until Krista Dietz deflected a shot past the goalkeeper to shrink Saint Anselm's lead to one goal, 5-4.
  • Knocking on the Hawks' doorstep the Setters needed one more goal to even up the contest at five apiece. However, time was not on Pace's side and in the final quarter, the Hawks switched to a conservative play style.
  • The Blue and Gold had an excellent look in the final minute of play but Saint Anselm managed to hold Pace off the board closing out the game with the lead. Despite an all-around effort from the Setters, four goals were not enough as the Hawks moved on to the next round with a 5-4 final score.
Box Score Insights
  • Both sides were active in the circle as the Setters recorded 19 shots compared to the Hawks' 20. Penalty corner opportunities were close for both teams as Pace had one more than Saint Anselm with eight total.
  • Fairhurst highlighted the offensive for Pace tallying two goals in the contest. Tamweber and Dietz each found the back of the net to round out the squad.
  • In the assists department, Dietz posted two while Carlotta Oschmann and Jenna McCrudden added one.
  • Wrapping up her accomplished career with the Setters, Dietz surpassed 200 career points in the game.
Altogether it was another strong season for Pace field hockey in a year filled with many memorable moments both on and off the field.
