Football Upended by Southern Connecticut State on the Road

NEW HAVEN, CT – Pace Football traveled to Southern Connecticut State University for a Northerast-10 Conference match up Saturday afternoon.

After trailing, 35-24 with under 5-minutes remaining in the day, the Setters battled back to slash the deficit to five, 35-30. After stopping the Owls, Pace had one more chance to edge the hosts but was upended for the 35-30 defeat.

Here's What Happened:
  • The Owls reached the endzone first to ignite the contest, but it was soon Dylan Squillacioti to put the Setters on the board with a field goal 7-3. The pattern of the first quarter followed through the second when the Owls posted a touchdown and Squillacioti made his way to the field to keep the Setters alive, 6-14.
  • To start the second half, Jalen Johnson intercepted a SCSU pass for a pick-six and put the blue and gold within two, 14-12.
  • Soon after, both squads tallied a touchdown for the 27-18 score and it was Ethan Coady who propelled the Setters closer to the lead with a touchdown pass to Robert Ennis to enter the final quarter, 28-24.
  • The Owls posted their final touchdown of the day, and it would be the point marker that allowed them to secure the win. Christopher McGuire rushed into the endzone to make the score 35-30 with under three minutes remaining, but time was not on their side and the Owls captured the NE10 victory.
