PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday evening, Pace men's basketball welcomed Bloomfield College to the Goldstein Fitness Center for their 2024-25 home opener. In front of their home crowd, the Setters handled business against the Bears earning a 75-58 win.
The Blue and Gold have been outstanding to start the season owning an 18-point average win margin over the first three contests. Following Wednesday's victory, Pace holds a 3-0 overall record with conference play just around the corner.
Here's What Happened
- Right out of the gates, the Setters left their mark on both ends of the floor jumping out to an 8-0 advantage. A 13-0 run from Pace made the difference in the opening half as it gave the home squad a 25-7 lead which continued to grow as the minutes passed by.
- To end the half Justin O'Neill launched a deep three-pointer to beat the buzzer giving Pace a 42-21 lead. A team-high 11 first-half points from Trey Boyd III helped the Setters gain a 21-point advantage heading into the half.
- In the second half, the Bears found momentum on the offensive end, but the Setters stood their ground maintaining the substantial lead. After Bloomfield nearly shrunk Pace's lead to less than double-digits five straight points from Jabari Nurse put the Setters back up by 20-points, 71-51.
- A final three-point dagger from Nurse put the finishing touches on the Setter's commanding win at home by a final score of 75-58. Another proficient night on both sides of the floor helped the Setters cruise to their third straight win to begin the year.
Box Score Insights
- Double-doubles came in all sizes for Pace as Jamaal Waters and Tray Alexander each had efficient nights on the court. Waters posted 12 points and ten rebounds while Alexander tallied 12 points to go along with a season-high 11 assists.
- An all-around offensive showing saw five different Setters enter double-digit scoring on the night. Jaden Kealy led the way with 14 points, while the trio of Waters, Alexander, and Boyd III each added 12. Nurse rounded out the top scorers with ten points.
- In a remarkable opening three games to start the season, the Setters have averaged 77.6 points per game while only surrendering an average of 59.6 points to their opponents.
The Setters return to their home court on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for the first in-conference battle of the season against Bentley University. Pace University will celebrate Senior Citizen and Military Appreciation Night during Saturday's contest.
