GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Arianna Stockinger's double-double led the Pace University Women's Basketball team to a road win against Adelphi University, 59-52. The Setters improve to 14-5 overall, and 8-5 in the Northeast-10.
Pace jumped out to a sizable lead with a 12-2 run to begin the game with Ciara Collins scoring half of the opening buckets for the Blue and Gold. It seemed it would be a dominant night for Pace, but Adelphi answered with a 9-2 run to open the second quarter to even the game, 19-19.
After a tight opening half, the Blue and Gold held a five-point lead over the Panthers, 28-23. Without their starting center, Pace struggled to defend the paint as Adelphi's Jenna Jordan took advantage down low with 11 first-half points.
Heading into the final quarter Pace led by one possession, 40-37.
Throughout a close fourth quarter, Pace and Adelphi traded buckets with neither side gaining more than a five-point lead until the closing seconds. MacKenzie Martin buried a clutch three-pointer with 30 seconds left to give Pace a seven-point advantage, 59-52, a lead that Adelphi could not overcome.
Stockinger posted her third double-double of the year with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Collins continues to improve in her sophomore season for Pace as she supplied 18 points and ten boards on 50 percent shooting from the field; it marks the third time this year that she has reached that notch.
Jenna Jordan was a force in the paint for the Panthers as she had one of her strongest performances of the season scoring 28 points to go alongside eight boards.
With another tough win away from their home court, Pace improves to an impressive 8-3 on the road.
The Setters return home on Thursday afternoon for a rescheduled match-up against Bentley University.
