GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – A strong effort from the Pace University Men's Basketball team fell short of a win against Adelphi University, 63-66, Tuesday night. Following the loss, Pace now sits at 12-8 overall, and 8-6 within the Northeast-10.
A balanced first half saw Pace trailing by six points, 23-29. The Blue and Gold wouldn't go down without a fight and battled back in the second half. Trimming the Adelphi lead early after a 13-6 run, Pace was nipping at the heels of the Panthers, 36-37.
Following a quiet start, Panthers guard Elijah Lewis found his groove in the second half. The second leading scorer for Adelphi on the season tallied 13 second-half points on 3-5 from deep.
The match-up came down to the final minutes as Tray Alexander cut through the lane for a contested layup with 1:45 remaining to even the score at 63-63. Shortly after, a close call at the rim on the other end sent Adelphi to the free-throw line where they buried two shots to give them a three-point advantage, 66-63. Pace had one final chance to send the game to overtime but a missed three-pointer from the corner ended their comeback.
After losing seven straight match-ups against Pace, Adelphi came out with the win in a hard-fought battle despite being shorthanded.
