Jones' Double-Double Leads Setters to 3-1 Victory over Felician

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University volleyball team made it two-wins in a row behind a double-double from Brielle Jones (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens) with 20 kills and 12 digs in a 3-1 victory over Felician University.

Pace improves to 2-1 on the year while Felician falls to 2-0. Pace returns to action this weekend with a trip up to Wilmington Del. for a pair of matches against Virginia Union and Goldey-Beacom.

Pace took set one by a score of 25-19. It was a close set for most of the set, with the teams trading points until the Setters rattled off four out of five points to grow the lead to 18-12. Pace kept the Golden Eagles at bay for the rest of the set and closed out set one with a kill by Madisen Lupica (Buchanon, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) off an assist from Maggie Ferguson (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug).

Set two featured a strong start for Felician, managing to gain a 10-6 lead. A Jada Screen (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) kill to make the score 10-7 was the catalyst of an 8-3 run which ended with a Golden Eagles attack error that gave Pace a 14-13 lead. Pace closed the set strong while keeping Felician off its tail, winning the set 25-22.

The life that Felician showed in set two came to fruition in set three, with the Golden Eagles emerging on top of the set 25-22.

The strong play that propelled the Golden Eagles to a set three victory continued into the early portions of set four, with Felician opening a 6-2 lead early on. The lead stayed with the visitors until a Jaiden Binning (Surrey, British Columbia/Earl Marriott Secondary) kill tied the set up at 12 apiece. A Jones kill swung the lead to the Setters, albeit only temporarily. The team's traded points until Lupica delivered a kill which was followed by Yasmeen Muhammad (Shoreline, Wa/Lakeside School) kill and a blocking assist by Muhammad and Lupica to force Felician into a late timeout. The Setters won the remaining points to secure a 25-17 victory in the fourth set.
