Viebrock and Puentes Power Setters to Victory Over Chargers

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's soccer team got back in the win column Wednesday evening at Northwell Stadium, taking down the University of New Haven, 2-0, in Northeast 10 play.

Pace improves to 4-3-1 while picking up two points in the NE10 standings. The Setters return to action next Tuesday on the road against Adelphi University at 7 p.m.

It was a quiet first half as neither team managed to find the back of the net, but that would not last in the second half.

Ava Viebrock gets the ball at midfield and sends it up field. Jillian Joe beats a Charger defender and takes possession and finds Viebrock on her right who firs off a shot from inside the box that gets by the outstretched arms of the charging New Haven keeper to take a 1-0 lead.

Pace was not done finding the back of the net and keep looking for an insurance goal. It would be delivered by Cecilia Puentes in the 78th minute. Mia Ferreira would send a cross in from the far side that would get all the way to the oppsoite side post. Puentes stopped the ball, centered it up and fired a shot to the right post to take a 2-0 lead.

Pace won the shots battle, outshooting the Chargers 17-11 and 9-5 on target. Anna Fiore recorded her second clean sheet of the season while making four saves.
