HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Pace University women's lacrosse team continued to roll this weekend, as the No. 2 ranked team in the country defeated No. 24 Southern New Hampshire University 19-5 Saturday, April 1.
After Southern New Hampshire (6-3, 2-3 NE10) took the early lead, the Setters (8-1, 5-0 NE10) scored five straight in the opening quarter. Sophomore attack
Nikki Mottes (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored to tie the game, and freshman defender
Katie Long (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) scored two of her three goals on the day during the period. Grad student midfielder
Emma Rafferty (Bay Shore, N.Y./Islip), who scored five goals on the day, had one in the quarter, and senior attack
Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) put one in as well. Long's second goal with two seconds left gave Pace a 5-1 lead after one.
The second quarter was a similar story, with the Setters again outscoring the Penmen 5-1 over the next 15 minutes. Rafferty scored three times for Pace in the period, while Urraro added her second of the day. Grad student midfielder
Aleya Corretjer (Thiells, N.Y./North Rockland) scored the first of her four goals on the afternoon, putting the visitors ahead 10-2 at the half.
Corretjer got going in the third, scoring back-to-back goals to extend Pace's lead to 12-2. A pair of SNHU goals were answered by Rafferty and grad student midfielder
Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh), keeping the lead at 10 goals heading to the fourth quarter.
Urraro connected early in the fourth, scoring twice in the first 3:05 of the period. Corretjer scored her final goal of the day early in the quarter as well, while Long and senior attack
Katie Smaldone (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Township) each added a goal for the Setters to finish off the day as the visitors rolled to a 19-5 win over the Penmen.
Urraro and Corretjer each had four goals and four assists on the day, while Raffery led Pace with five goals. The grad student now has 34 goals on the year, giving her the most goals in the NE10. Long scored three times for Pace, putting in three goals for the second consecutive game.
On the defensive side, Pace allowed just five goals for the third straight game. Conway led the Setters with five ground balls, and junior midfielder
Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) had four caused turnovers and six draw controls.

Pace plays the first of three straight home games Tuesday, April 4, when the Setters host the University of New Haven in conference play. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
