Pace Softball Swept in Doubleheader at No. 12 Concordia University Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – Continuing their spring break trip to California, the Pace University softball team was defeated twice at 12th-ranked Concordia University Irvine on Monday night. The Setters dropped contests by scores of 5-1 and 5-2.

Freshman Kaylee Matsuda (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Iolani School) was sensational in leading the Pace offense across the two games. The rookie shortstop finished 5-for-5 with a run scored.

Matsuda has now registered multiple hits in four games this season while holding a team-best .400 batting average.

Raelle Gorman (Temecula, Calif./Temecula Valley) and Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) contributed Pace's two other hits on the day while Katerina Luna (Mckinney, Texas/Rock Hill) earned the Setters' lone RBI in the seventh inning of Game Two.

On the other side of the ball, junior Anna Acevedo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) pitched effectively in the finale. The right-hander allowed just three earned runs in five innings of work.
