PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's basketball team capped off the regular season with a victory, as the Setters defeated Franklin Pierce University 73-54 Tuesday evening at home. Freshman guard
Morgan Ryan (Plainfield, N.J./Rutgers Prep) led the way for the home team with 15 points, while graduate student
Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's)Â had 14 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists.
The win puts the Setters at a 12-15 record to close out the regular season, and 9-11 in the NE10. Franklin Pierce fell to 8-19 on the year, and 4-16 in the conference.
Pace jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as the Settlers held an eight-point lead after the first quarter, thanks in large part to nine first quarter points from sophomore forward
Arianna Stockinger (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Putnam Valley). The home team kept up the offense in the second, outscoring the Ravens 22-6 in the period and scoring 11 unanswered points midway through the quarter, with Hackett scoring 11 to put the Setters ahead 44-20 at the half.
Pace built the lead up to 25 points early in the third, but Franklin Pierce came back with seven straight points. Hackett then answered with a three pointer, followed by two more shots from beyond the arc by Ryan and sophomore guard
Mackenzie Koch (Reston, Va./Herndon). Ryan then hit two more of her team-high five threes, making it a 63-40 game after the third.
Sophomore center
Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School)Â scored four points in the final period, as she finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds. Then in the final minute, graduate student
Kelsey Quain (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining)Â hit a three pointer to close things out, as the Settlers took a 73-54 victory.
After the game, the team celebrated its two graduating players, as Hackett and Quain were honored following the conclusion of their final regular season home game.
