WORCESTER, MA – The 2023 Pace University field hockey season came to a bitter end in the Northeast 10 semifinals against the top-seeded Assumption University Greyhounds, 3-2.
The Setters conclude the regular season and conference tournament with an overall record of 13-7
A penalty stroke for the Greyhounds would result in the first goal of the game. In the first minute of the game, Callie Beauparlant fired the stroke past
Celeste Pagliaroli to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Setters got the goal they had been vying for. Off a penalty corner,
Krista Dietz received the corner at the top of the box, who passed it off to
Julia Eshleman who fired a shot into the back of the cage to tie the game up at 1-1.
Caroline McSweeney responded five minutes later to put the Greyhounds back on top. The score got up to 3-1 with 10 minutes left in the game on a Lily Daly goal.
Pace would get the lead back down to one off another Eshleman goal, giving Pace new life. She scored after getting the ball at the top of the arc and fired off a an off balance shot and getting it to the far post.
With less than 4:30 left, Noelle Meij broke away and got into the box but fired the potential game tying shot wide of the cage. Shortly after, Dietz fired a shot for the high corner, but it was swatted down by the Greyhounds goalie.
In the final five minutes, Pace was awarded nine corners but could not convert despite many shots. In the final 20 seconds, both
Jessica Wolfe and
Tavia Flecksteiner both had shots saved.
