Pace Falls to Adelphi in NE10 Quarterfinals

GARDEN CITY N.Y. -- Tuesday night, the No. 8 seed Pace University volleyball team lost in three straight sets to No. 1 Adelphi University in the Northeast 10 quarterfinals.

The Setters put up a solid effort in each set, but the first-seeded Panthers were unfazed and wrapped up the match 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-23). Brenna Valsted led the way for Adelphi with 30 assists, and eight kills on the night.

Pace was up for the challenge early against Adelphi, jumping out to a 12-5 lead in the first set. The underdog Setters were comfortable early, controlling the first set until a late 7-2 run from Adelphi. The Panthers managed to keep the set within striking distance and pulled away at the end 25-23.

The second set would favor the first-seeded Panthers 25-19. In the final set, Pace took a commanding 22-16 lead over Adelphi, but another late run from the Panthers would give them the match 25-23.

Despite the Setters leading for the majority of the first and third sets, Adelphi would rally from behind in each to move on to the next round of the NE10 Tournament.

Pace was led in kills by the trio of Yasmeen Muhammad (9), Daniella Abbastante (8), and Brielle Jones (8). Maggie Ferguson contributed the most assists with 17, with Georgette Cosentino following closely behind with 15.

The Setters season comes to a conclusion; however, the youthful Pace squad should continue to make an impact in the NE10 for years to come.
