Healing Earns 100th Career Win in Double Overtime Thriller Against Queens

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Pace University men's basketball team needed an extra 10 minutes against Queens College, but the Setters came out on top, 88-80, to earn head coach Matt Healing his 100th career collegiate coaching win on Saturday.

Pace improves to 1-0 and will return to Rockville Centre tomorrow for an 8 p.m. matchup with Molloy University.

It was wire-to-wire the entire way and with 24 seconds left, the Knights clung to a 69-67 lead, Tray Alexander drove into the lane but his layup was blocked by Queens' Lawerence Zyier. Jaden Kealey was there to grab the offensive rebound and finished through contact to earn an and-one and tie the game up at 69-69. He missed the go-ahead free throw, and the game went to the first of an eventual two overtimes.

In the first overtime, Queens once again held a lead going into the final minutes, but it would be Alexander with the ball in his hands once again. After being fouled and connecting on both of his free throws with 33 seconds left, Queens got the ball back and the Setters defense delivered a stop with eight seconds left. Out of a timeout, Bryan Powell missed a triple to win the game, sending the game into a second overtime.

In the second overtime, a fast break dunk by Justin O'Neill off a steal gave the Setters the momentum they needed to pull away. Shortly after, O'Neil connected on a triple to grow the lead to 86-80, while Queens wouldn't get back on the board for the final four minutes of the game.

Powell picked up right where he left off last season. The All-Met selection turned in 25 points, seven rebounds and three assists while playing in all 50 minutes. O'Neill produced 20 points on 6-8 from the field off the bench. Alexander chipped in 14 points, six rebounds and four assist to supplement Powell and O'Neill.

As a team, Pace shot 45.3 percent from the field and an impressive 57.9 percent from beyond the arc, going 11-19.
