PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The 2023 Pace University soccer season came to a close Saturday night at Northwell Stadium with Pace falling to Southern New Hampshire University, 4-1.
The Setters close the season with a final record of 7-7-2 overall and 3-6-2 in Northeast 10 play.
The Penmen scored often and early to put the match out of reach for Pace. In the 21st minute, SNHU's Victoria Raulston sent a ball into the Setters defensive zone from midfield, and in the ensuing foot chase, Carly Schofield won and fired a shot past the Setters'
Anna Fiore to take a 1-0 lead.
The two linked up again in the 25
th minute, except it was Raulston who scored off an assist from Schofield. The Penmen got one more goal just before the half ended to take a 3-0 lead into the break.
Pace did get one in the second half,
Ava Viebrock snuck a ball past the Penmen off an assist from Ceclia Puentes to try to help get Pace back in the game. The Penmen put them away with a fourth goal of their own 10 minutes later. The goal for Viebrock is the sixth of the 2023 season.
