MANCHESTER, NH – The Pace University Football team turned in solid play on all sides of the ball to earn a 23-16 over Saint Anselm College on the road.
Next week is the final week of the regular season for the Setters, hosting the University of New Haven at Northwell Stadium.
On the first offensive play of the game, the Setters dodged a bullet recovering their own fumble.
Nasir Robinson got the Setters back on track on the following play with a 16-yard rush to get to the Pace 41.
Aidan Kennedy than completed a 59-touchdown strike to
Tyreek Smith to take a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.
A couple drives later the Hawks got the touchdown back on a seven-yard pass by Anthony Santino. The Setters drove down the field right after and a
Dylan Squillacioti drilled a 42-yard field goal for the Setters to take a 10-7 lead into the start of the second quarter.
Another Squallacioti field goal early in the second quarter gave Pace a 13-7 lead. Saint Anselm connected on a 34-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to cut the lead to 13-10.
In the third, the Hawks grabbed the lead on Santino's second touchdown pass of the game, but the Pace defense blocked the PAT was blocked by Smith to keep the lead at three.
It would be in the fourth quarter where Pace got back on scoreboard. Squillacioti tied the game up from 41 yards out. Pace held the Hawks at bay on the following drive, and Pace got to start its next drive on its own 25.
Robinson provided a 24 yard rush on the first play to put the Setters at midfield. Kennedy and Smith hooked up for 37 yards to put the Setters in the red zone, on the Hawks 14. Robinson took it the rest of the way and broke the plain to take a 23-16 lead.
Saint Anselm got one final shot with just under two minutes on their own 24, but
Eliot Porter sealed the game with an interception on the first play of the drive.
Robinson finished with 158 rushing yards and the winning touchdown while Smith hauled in the three catches for 101 yards.
