PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After a successful trip to South Carolina to begin the season, the Pace University field hockey team earned a trio of Northeast-10 Conference weekly awards on Monday.
In a terrific haul to start 2022, sophomore
Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was named the NE10's Player of the Week, junior
Kate Demars (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison) was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week and freshman
Alina Buerger (Königs Wusterhausen, Brandenburg, Germany/Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium) is the league's Rookie of the Week.
Dietz led the way for a Setters team that posted a 2-1 record during its opening week of action. The sophomore tallied a point in each of Pace's contests, while capping off the week with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Slippery Rock.
Demars piloted Pace's defense that allowed just four goals in a 2-1 stretch last week. She also chipped in a goal in the Setters win over Limestone.
Buerger, who played every minute in net for Pace, posted a 1.33 goals-against average during a 2-1 stretch last week. The German yielded just four goals while racking up 19 stops in three complete-game efforts. Buerger's top performance came when she recorded six saves in a shutout of Limestone on Saturday.
