WEST HAVEN, CT – In their first conference road game, the Pace University field hockey team was defeated by New Haven, 4-3, on Tuesday night.
Â
The Setters drop to 0-2 in the conference while the Chargers improve to 2-0.
Â
After a scoreless first quarter, Pace struck first in the second stanza when sophomore
Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) found freshman
Tavia Flecksteiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) for a goal. It marked Dietz'Â third assist and Flecksteiner's second goal this season.
Â
New Haven was quick to respond, tying the game four minutes later when a Kelli Jacobson goal off a Kat Trammel assist sent the game into the half all tied up.
Â
Trammel would then score a goal 72 seconds into the second half, followed by an Abby Nixon tally less than two minutes later, giving the Chargers a 3-1 lead in the blink of an eye.
Â
Zharria John, who assisted on the Trammel goal, would get a goal of her own as well in the fourth quarter, blowing the game wide open in the process.
Â
Despite the loss, Pace showed no signs of giving up as the Setters would score two goals in the final four minutes. Sophomore
Noelle Meij (Huizen, Netherlands/Laar & Berg Secondary School) cut the lead to 4-2 in the 56th minute with her team-leading third goal of the season, followed by freshmanÂ
Molly Paterson's (Whitstable, Kent, England/Kent College Canterbury) first career goal with just 49 seconds remaining.
Pace next travels to take on Southern New Hampshire (1-0 NE10, 2-3 overall) on Friday night.
