PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – In the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, the Pace University softball team dropped a 5-2 contest to Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday. The loss moves the Setters' overall record to 27-19.Â
Â
With Pace leading 2-1 after four innings, it was a four-run fifth by SCSU that ultimately proved as the difference.Â
Â
The Setters' two runs came courtesy of back-to-back RBI doubles by freshman
Brianna Shea (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino ) and senior
Zoie Iverson (Oregon City, Ore./Alliance Charter Academy/ Oregon City High School) in the fourth inning.Â
Â
Besides those two-baggers, Pace's offense featured only two other hits. Freshmen
Alexa Borino (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) and
Jade Alvarado (West Covina, Calif./South Hills) each knocked singles.Â
Â
Freshman
Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) once again pitched extremely well in the losing effort. The California native went the distance, allowing just two earned runs with 13 strikeouts.Â
Â
Garcia's 2022 campaign now consists of 11 double-digit strikeout efforts. She also currently holds a 1.41 ERA this season in 163.2 innings pitched.Â
