Pace Softball's Season Ends with Two Losses at NCAA Regional

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Following an opening-game win over top-seeded Adelphi on Thursday, the Pace University softball team dropped a pair of contests at the NCAA East Regional on Friday. The Setters' 2022 season ends with an overall record of 28-21.

Game One – #4 Caldwell 3, #8 Pace 2
Sitting just a strike away from a berth into Saturday's championship game, Pace was unable to close the deal.

The Setters led 2-1 with two outs in the seventh prior to a Caldwell rally that resulted in the Cougars taking a 3-2 lead. Pace could not answer in the bottom half of the seventh.

With all three of Caldwell's runs going unearned, freshman Gisselle Garcia (Lemon Grove, Calif. /Mater Dei Catholic) tossed another stellar complete game. The California native struck out six batters while finishing her season with a 1.30 ERA across 177.2 innings.

Pace's two runs came on RBI singles from freshman Brianna Shea (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino ) and junior Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter). Pederson finished the contest a team-best 4-for-4 at the dish.

Freshman Alexa Borino (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) scored both of Pace's runs from the lead-off spot.

Game Two – #1 Adelphi 4, #8 Pace 0
Unable to replicate their offense from Thursday, Pace mustered just three hits against the top-seeded Panthers.

Graduate student Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) pitched well in a losing effort. The New Jersey native allowed just two earned runs across six innings.

Borino followed up her two runs scored in the opener with two singles against Adelphi.
