Pace Baseball Falls Twice to Adelphi

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University baseball team dropped a conference home doubleheader to Adelphi on Saturday. The Setters' record now stands at 11-9 overall and 3-3 in the NE10.

Game One – Adelphi 10, Pace 6
The Panthers got off to quick start, scoring two runs in the first inning and three more in the third.

A Mitchell McCabe (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford/ Bridgton Academy) triple in the bottom of the sixth brought two runs in for the Setters, but Adelphi responded with five more in the seventh inning.

Down 10-2 in the eighth inning, Pace stormed back, beginning with a Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) two-run home run.

In the ninth, the Blue and Gold managed to score two more runs, first off a Nate Carminucci (Somers, N.Y./North Salem High School) fielder's choice, followed by an Andrew Primm (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) RBI single, one of his team-high two hits.

However, the rally ended there. Overall, the Panthers out-hit the Setters 14-8, who were doomed by three early errors in the first two innings.

Game Two – Adelphi 12, Pace 7
The second game of the doubleheader followed the same format as the opener: the Panthers took a sizable early lead, only for the Setters to mount a comeback attempt.

Adelphi was up 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Pace batters erupted.

McCabe led off with a single, followed by a Carminucci RBI double, a single from Nicholas Montagna (Holmes, N.Y./Carmel), and an RBI single from Robert Chesney (Malverne, NY/Kellenberg Memorial), all in succession.

An Anthony Labita (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) double brought in a third run, followed by a fourth from a Johnny Guarantano (Nottingham, Md./RJ Reynolds High School) sac fly.

With the score now 8-7, the Panthers shut the door in the top of the seventh in the form of a Michael Draskin grand slam.

McCabe led the Setters with four hits in the second contest.
