PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University women's lacrosse team, coming off back-to-back road losses against top-6 nationally ranked opponents, broke their losing skid in convincing fashion, outdueling Southern New Hampshire at Pace Stadium by a score of 19-9 on Saturday.
The win improves the Setters' record to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
After a competitive first quarter ended 5-4, it was all Pace going forward as the Setters outscored the Penmen 14-5 the rest of the way, winning every subsequent quarter by at least two goals.
Senior Kayla Conway (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) was the driving force for the Blue and Gold on the afternoon. The senior finished with game-highs of five goals and seven points to along with two assists.
Conway's efforts were ably aided by a trio of hat tricks on the part of juniors Jolie Urraro (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) and Sydney Juvelier (Centereach, N.Y./Centereach) as well as from sophomore Angelina Porcello (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester).
Juvelier has now notched at least three goals in six of the team's nine contests, while Porcello has done so on five occasions.
Jaimie Bell (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) and Nikki Mottes (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) each scored a pair a piece, while Katie Smaldone (Sussex, N.J./Vernon Township) was the lone single-goal scorer for Pace.
Urraro meanwhile finished with a game-high and career-best three assists.Â
The Setters had only mustered four assists in their two previous games combined but rectified that with seven dishes against the Penmen.
Defensively, nine different Pace players caused at least one turnover, harassing the Penmen offense all over the field.
Freshman Kate Laico (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) picked up her fourth win of the season in net.
