Lauren Hackett (Commack, N.Y./St. Anthony's) led the way with 18 points for the Setters women's basketball team despite a 54-50 loss to College of Staten Island on the road on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore center/forward
Tower Lorde (Saint Michael, Barbados/The St. Michael School) scored 15, going 6-for-11 from the floor, 3-for-3 from the foul line. The point total tied a career-best for the Saint Michael, Barbados, native.
Staten Island (2-4) was led by Elizabeth Lofaro with 17 points and Kaia Johnson with 12. Lofaro shot 5-of-6 from the field, 3-for-3 from three and 4-for-6 from the foul line.
The Dolphins led 28-20 at the half.
With just over four minutes to play, Pace had cut the Staten Island lead to two, 44-42, after a three-point play, layup and one, by Lorde. However, the Dolphins answered and maintained a steady lead through the end of the game.
With the loss, Pace falls to 1-4 on the season. The Blue and Gold travel to New Haven, Conn. to face Southern Connecticut State in an NE10 matchup at James Moore Field House. First tip is slated for 5:30 p.m. Pace is 0-1 in NE10 action.
