Powell Brothers Tally 38 Combined Points In 74-47 Win Over Saint Anselm

Pleasantville, N.Y. -- Setter senior forward Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) and his brother senior guard Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) combined for 38 points as the Pace Men's Basketball team defeated Saint Anselm, 74-47 on Tuesday night at Goldstein Fitness Center. Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the field, 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) notched 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting. As a team, Pace went 10-for-20 in 3-point shooting, 29-for-53 from the field overall. 

At the half, Pace led 36-21.

Pace junior guard Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass./Tech Boston / Southern Connecticut State) also worked his way into the double digits, recording 11 and shooting 4-for-8 from the field. Senior forward Frankyn Batista (Barahona, Dominican Republic/Hyde / AIC) pulled down 10 boards for the Setters. 

With the win, Pace moves to 4-1 overall on the season, 1-1 in NE10 action. Saint Anselm falls to 2-3 overall, 1-2 in league play. 

Owen McGlashan was the Hawks high-scorer with 17. 

The game was tied at 16-16 halfway through the first stanza before the momentum swung permanently into the direction of the Setters. Pace went on a 18-2 scoring run to take a 34-18 lead that lasted into the last minute of play. Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) had seven points in the run. 

The closest the Hawks would come in the second half was a nine-point differential, 40-31 with 16:14 on the clock in the second. Marc Dadika (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saint Mary's Rutherford / FDU) put up a second-chance layup to start another short scoring spurt that would put Pace up, 47-31 with 14:02 to go.

Next up, Pace will host College of Staten Island at home on Sunday, Nov. 27 for a 1:30 p.m. tipoff.
