Setters Field Hockey Sets Records In 7-2 Win Over SCSU

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – It was a history making night from Finnerty X. Field, as several team and individual records were tied or broken on Wednesday, as the Pace University field hockey team earned a dominant 7-2 victory over Southern Connecticut State University.

The Setters tied the record for most goals scored in a single game (7) and broke the record for most points in a single game (20). Sophomore forward Krista Dietz (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) set the Setters' individual record for most points in a single game (7) while also tying the school record for most assists in a single season (7).

The win improves the Setters to 8-7 overall, 5-5 record in the NE10, while SCSU drops to 4-12 and 3-9 respectively.

Pace raced out to a 2-0 lead less than nine minutes into the contest, with goals from freshman midfielder Tavia Flecksteiner (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and senior midfielder Jessica Wolfe (Halfmoon, N.Y./Shenendehowa). In the second quarter, SCSU's Trinidad Rodriguez scored for the Owls, cutting the deficit in half until Wolfe repaid midfielder Noelle Meij, who assisted on the senior's goal, by assisting on the sophomore's first tally of the game (24:18).

Rodriguez would score another in the second quarter, sending the game into intermission with the Setters up 3-2.

However, it was all Pace in the second half, as the Blue and Gold scored a pair in both of the final periods, starting with Meij's second of the game just three minutes into the third quarter.

From there on it was the Dietz show, as the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Year put on a virtuoso scoring display, finding the back of the net three times over the course of just eight minutes of game time. The sophomore finished with three goals and one assist for seven points. No Pace player had ever gone for more than five points in a single game previously.

The Mahopac native, who already holds the program records for most single-season goals and points, added most single-season assists to her ever-growing resume. With her seventh assist of the year, Dietz tied the program record, and with 23 points thus far this season, the sophomore currently holds two of the top four single-season points marks in Pace history.

Dietz sits in second place in the conference in assists (7) and points (23), and fifth in goals (8).

Freshman goalkeeper Aline Buerger picked up her eighth win of the season, making four saves in the process.

With three games remaining in the regular season, Pace is firmly in the thick of the playoff hunt, currently sitting in eighth place in the conference standings.

The Setters will look to make it three wins a row when they travel to Vermont to take on Saint Michael's on Saturday at noon.
