Pace Men's Basketball Defeats Queens College, 73-66

QUEENS, N.Y. -- The Pace men's basketball team puts a 2-0 stamp to the start of the 2022-23 season after a 73-66 win at Queens College on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Conference Challenge. 

Senior guard Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush / FDU) led all Setter scorers with 18 points, shooting 6-for-14 from the floor, 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Senior forward Frankyn Batista (Barahona, Dominican Republic/Hyde / AIC) poured in 17, coming in off the bench and shooting 7-for-11 and adding eight rebounds and two steals. 

Junior guard Lyron Bennett (Boston, Mass./Tech Boston / Southern Connecticut State) and senior forward Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) also scored in double-figures. Bennett scored 13 while Powell added 11. 

Adonis Williams (Spring Valley, N.Y./Brooks School / Adelphi) also recorded eight rebounds to tie Batistsa for team-best. 

At the half, Pace led by just one, 35-34. Sunnie Diamond led Queens College with 17 points. 

Next up, the Setters will host Mercy at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at Goldstein Fitness Center.
