Men's Basketball Earns Dramatic Win at Le Moyne, 68-67

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Playing a fourth game inside of a six-day span, the Pace University men's basketball team earned a dramatic 68-67 win at Le Moyne College on Monday night. The road triumph pushes the Setters' record to 12-8 this season, 8-5 inside the Northeast-10 Conference.

On a night when he surpassed 1,000 career points, it was Austin Gilbertson (Etters, Pa./Trinity) who also served as Pace's hero in the final seconds of regulation. With the Setters down by one point, Gilbertson was fouled on a three-point attempt with 1.2 seconds on the clock.

Gilbertson calmly knocked in a pair of free throws to give Pace the lead, while missing the final attempt on purpose. Le Moyne wasn't able to get a final shot off before the final buzzer.

Gilbertson's clutch foul shots put the finishing touches on a season-best, 17-point night. With a three-pointer at the 13:59 mark of the second half, he became just the 37th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points.

Junior Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush) led the Setters in scoring on Monday with a 20-point effort. He also nabbed 11 rebounds to secure his first double-double of the season. Powell has now scored in double figures in eight straight games.

Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School) and Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) also chipped in double-digit point totals. Powell finished with 13 points, while Jacobs had 10.

The Setters were ferocious on the boards against Le Moyne, tallying a 43-34 rebounding edge. Pace's 16 offensive rebounds tied for their second highest total of the season.

Coach Healing's squad also finished the game with nine steals, while forcing 17 Le Moyne turnovers.

Pace has now won at Le Moyne each of the last three seasons.
