WALTHAM, Mass. – Facing their first nationally ranked opponent this season, the Pace University men's basketball team was defeated at No. 25 Bentley on Saturday by a score of 85-73. The loss puts the Setters' record at 9-5 this season, including 5-2 inside the NE10.
In a tight contest throughout, including a Setters' eight-point lead at halftime, it was a 20-8 run to close the game that clinched the win for Bentley.
With the game tied at 65-65, the Falcons made five of their final eight shots from the field and all eight free-throw attempts across the last 6:55 of regulation. In fact, Bentley finished the game a perfect 19-for-19 from the charity stripe.
The Blue and Gold were led by a career-best performance by junior
Brandon Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush). The FDU transfer poured in a team-high 22 points, to go along with seven rebounds and two assists.
Powell's brother,
Bryan Powell (Middletown, N.Y./Canterbury School), joined in with a near-double-double of 14 points and eight boards.
Graduate guard
Brandon Jacobs (Cambria Heights, N.Y./Long Island Lutheran) rounded out Pace's double-figure scorers with 16 points. He also dished out a team-best five assists.
Pace's 85 points allowed marked a new season high for the Setters. Bentley's 47.4 shooting percentage also signified the second highest of any Pace opponent this season.
