GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Seeing their final action of the 2021 regular season, the Pace University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Adelphi on Saturday. The Setters will enter the NE10 Tournament with an overall record of 14-15, including a 9-13 mark in the NE10.
GAME ONE – Adelphi 4, Pace 2 (Seven Innings)
After going down 3-0 in the second,
Matt Almonte (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) provided both of Pace's runs in the third on an RBI double to left field.
Six other Setters registered a hit in the opener, including a team-best 2-for-3 effort from
Harrison Treble (Oyster Bay, N.Y./Oyster Bay).
Christopher Vivenzio (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) pitched well in relief, allowing just one run across 2.1 innings of work.
GAME TWO – Adelphi 11, Pace 4
A six-run fifth inning for Adelphi opened up Game Two. The Panthers gained an 8-2 lead after Pace tied the game up in the top half of the fifth. The Setters put up their four runs on three hits and 10 walks.
Almonte put forth two more RBIs in the finale as he finished the regular season with a team-high 29 in that category. He launched his sixth home run of the season—a solo shot—in the seventh inning.
Almonte finishes his sensational regular season with team-highs in batting average (.396), slugging percentage (.651), runs scored (27), and on-base percentage (.475).
On the mound,
Michael Roll (Ramsey, N.J./Bergen Catholic High School) tossed a pair of scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
