Pace Softball Splits Doubleheader at AIC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Beginning a four-game weekend series on the road, the Pace University softball team split an NE10 doubleheader against AIC on Saturday afternoon.

Game One – Pace 6, AIC 5
Trailing by a score of 5-4—and down to their final three outs—the Setters rallied with two runs in the seventh to clinch a thrilling win in the opener.

After a walk, sac bunt and error tied the game up at 5-5, senior Emma Carruth (Torrance, Calif./Beverly Hills) came up with a clutch RBI double to provide Pace with a 6-5 lead.

Senior pitcher Mackenzie Garrick (South River, N.J./South River) was able to shut the door on AIC in the bottom half of the seventh to earn the victory. Garrick allowed just a single earned run in a complete-game effort.

The Setters also trailed 4-2 in the contest prior to a two-run home run off the bat of freshman Kaylani Miller (Los Angeles, Calif./Village Christian) in the sixth. Miller also doubled in the game, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Game Two – AIC 5, Pace 4
It was the Yellow Jackets who pulled off the late-inning heroics in the second game of the day. AIC plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off win.

Miller was once again at the forefront of Pace's offense in the Game Two loss. She finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Miller finished the two games on Saturday with two doubles, a triple and a home run.

Senior Alexandra Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y./Haldane) also went 2-for-3 in the second contest while Brittany Walkingstick (Peculiar, Mo. /Desert Ridge / Mesa Community College) and Gwen Pederson (Sylmar, Calif./Granada Hills Charter) and Juliet Bernstein (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) each chipped in hits of their own.
