Pace Football Defeated in Season Finale at AIC, 14-7

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Pace University football team concluded its 2021 season with a narrow 14-7 road defeat to American International College on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

The low-scoring season-finale was a rematch of a non-conference shootout played back on Sept. 10 at Pace Stadium.

The Setters started the day in style, forcing a turnover on each of AIC's first two possessions of the game.

Pace forced a fumble on the opening Yellow Jackets drive, and senior Isaiah Walker (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) followed that up with his first career interception on AIC's second drive.

The pick elicited a 12-play, 55-yard, 5-and-a-half-minute Setters drive, which sophomore quarterback Sean Kehley (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) capped off with a one-yard rushing touchdown, his third of the season.

The Blue and Gold's Nate Ojugo (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) forced another Yellow Jacket fumble on the very next possession, but a quick three-and-out gave the ball back to AIC, who proceeded to score on a two-yard Samad Davila run to send the game into the half all knotted up.

Davila was not done scoring, however, as his 15-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter ended up being the game-deciding points.

Pace's special-teams unit kept the Setters within striking distance. Sophomores Joshua Grubbs (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) and Daniel Meaney (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) each blocked Joseph Caloiero field-goal attempts to keep it a one-score game.

Senior linebacker Dustin Huseinovic (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) put a magnificent bow on his season with a dominating defensive performance.

The New Jersey-native recorded a career-high 14 total tackles in his final contest of 2021. Huseinovic finishes the year with 105 tackles, and 10.5 tackles-per-game, both marks good for second in the NE10 on the season.
