PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Playing their penultimate home game of the 2021 regular season, the Pace University football team dropped a 19-8 contest to Stonehill on Saturday.
Â
Trailing 16-0 late in the third quarter, the Setters were able to make it a one-score game following a 23-yard touchdown toss from sophomore
Louie Barrios (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) to senior
Brian Dolan (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII). Barrios then scampered in for the two-point conversion.
Â
The Blue and Gold's defense and special teams kept them within striking distance on Saturday.
Â
Freshman punter
Cade Torres (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) was especially impressive for Pace. The New Jersey native downed all four of his punts inside the 11 yard-line while averaging 49.5 yards per attempt. He also hammered a monstrous 71-yard bomb in the second quarter.
Â
Also on the special teams front, senior
Nasier Givens (Newark, N.J./Orange) deflected a 43-yard field-goal attempt by Stonehill in the fourth quarter.
Â
Defensively,
Dustin Huseinovic (Harrison, N.J./Harrison) piled up a team-high 11 tackles. He has now reached that total in five games this season, and currently ranks second in the NE10 in tackles per game (10.6).
Â
Senior
Isaiah Walker (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) was also stout defensively as he reached a new career high with eight tackles.
