PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Facing a second-straight nationally ranked opponent, the Pace University baseball team (5-7) was defeated by No. 10 Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 7-5.
The majority of the Setters' offense came in the third inning when senior
Joseph Curcio (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills High School) hammered a grand slam over the field-field wall.
Noah Clement (Voorhees, N.J./Roman Catholic High School),
Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional High School) and
Johnny Guarantano (Nottingham, Md./RJ Reynolds High School) all scored on Curcio's second home run of the season to cut the SNHU lead to 6-4.
Pace's fifth run was also produced with the bases loaded when
Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, N.J./Monmouth Regional High School) crossed home plate in the seventh inning off a hit by pitch to
Luke Jacobi (Edison, N.J./JP Stevens).
Clement and Curcio led the Setters' offense with two hits apiece in the contest.
On the other side of the ball, the Blue and Gold's bullpen kept Pace in the game on Tuesday. The foursome of
Greg Najar (Howell, N.J./Freehold Township),
Frankie Giuliano (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac),
Christian Aich (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) and
Nick Palumbo (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills High School) combined to allow just one earned run across the final six innings.
