Ippolito's Gem Leads Pace Baseball to 4-0 Win Over AIC

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On the back of a one-hit gem from left-hander Thomas Ippolito (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), the Pace University baseball team posted a 4-0 win over American International College on Friday night. The victory puts the Setters at 29-14 this season, with a 15-9 mark inside the NE10.

Ippolito, who is now 6-1 this season, was masterful in a complete-game shutout of the Yellow Jackets. The sophomore allowed just a lone single in the fourth inning while lowering his ERA to 2.04 this year. He finished the contest with seven strikeouts.

With Ippolito dominating on the mound, the Setters' offense came alive with a two-out rally in the seventh.

Dean DePreta (Stamford, CT/Westhill High School) put Pace on the board with a ground-rule double to left-center field to score Luke Jacobi (Edison, NJ/JP Stevens), who reached on a walk.

The Setters' next run would come following an errant throw from the AIC catcher to bring Michael Barbato (Sparkill, NY/Tappan Zee) home.

Noah Clement (Voorhees, NJ/Roman Catholic High School) would then break things open with two-run single up the middle, scoring DePreta and Justin Scotto (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional High School).

Ippolito retired the final six AIC batters of the game to clinch the series-opening win for the Blue and Gold.
