SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Led by a complete-game gem from Emma Bernet (Baldwinsville, NY/Charles W Baker), the Pace University softball team registered a 4-1 win over Le Moyne in the NE10 Tournament First Round on Tuesday.
The Setters will now advance to Championship Weekend to be held at Saint Anselm College, beginning on Thursday afternoon. Pace is set for a matchup against second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University at approximately 2:30 p.m.
Bernet was masterful in her 16th start of the season, allowing just the one run on three hits across seven innings of work.
After Le Moyne took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Bernet yielded just a single hit over the final six innings. She finished the game with six strikeouts.
Pace's offense was produced by runs in four consecutive innings. A sacrifice fly from Emma Schafer (Mission Viejo, CA/El Toro) opened Pace's scoring, tying the game at 1-1 in the second.
Lindsey Ah Soon (Ewa Beach, HI/Kamehameha Kapalama) would then register an RBI single in the third to give the Setters a 2-1 edge. Emma Carruth (Torrance, CA/Beverly Hills) came around to score after leading off the inning with a single.
Pace's biggest hit of the game came in the fourth as Aby Brambila (Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park) launched a solo home run for a 3-1 lead.
The Setters' final insurance run came courtesy of a Jillian Gartner (Encinitas, CA/San Dieguito Academy) single through the right side in the fifth. Senior Annie Carberry (Colorado Springs, CO/Pine Creek) scored on the play following a lead-off single.
